Biotin is a key vitamin for healthy hoof growth. Cracked, brittle or too soft hooves as well as a lack of hoof growth can be caused by a lack of biotin, a water-soluble vitamin from the group of B vitamins.

The B vitamins are normally produced in sufficient quantities in the horse's healthy large intestine. Unfortunately, a lack of crude fibre, reduced basic feed quality or an unbalanced diet lead to disturbances of the intestinal flora and thus to a reduced biotin self-synthesis. In addition to delayed hoof growth and reduced horn quality, skin disorders, muscle tension, nervousness and loss of performance can be further signs of a biotin deficiency.
